Hi Blog, I'm Carling.

A couple of weeks ago, someone asked me "so, what are your hobbies?"

I surprised myself when I didn't really have an answer.

I don't paint, or play an instrument. I don't knit or play chess and I'm not an avid bird-watcher.

I'm a book enthusiast, but reading has been such an integral part of my life that I don't consider it to be a hobby per se. I find cooking relaxing, but it's more of a necessity than a hobby. Occasionally I make YouTube videos, though I don't think that I do this often enough for it to be considered a hobby.

Queue the search for a hobby.

So, my current love-hate relationship with social media (a story for another day...) mixed with this ever-present feeling that I need to find a hobby has led me here.

I can't tell you what to expect from this blog. I imagine that, for the most part, it will be an accumulation of my inner-dialogue strung into (hopefully) comprehensible sentences, mixed with anecdotes from my travels and sprinkled with lessons that I've learned during my meagre 20 years on this earth.*

Anyhow, I'm not really sure how to end this so I suppose I'll just leave it at that. Except for the side note that you're about to read...

*I'm not sure what entitles someone to provide "lessons", words of wisdom, or to make recommendations (because I'm certainly not an expert on much of anything), but I'll give it a go.
